Project Introduction

While working at the designer agency New Designers, I had the opportunity to collaborate on a meaningful project for a client. A university teacher who aimed to improve inclusivity among educators. Together with a colleague, we embarked on a 3-month journey to create three themed booklets: Inclusive Teaching, Inclusive Language Use, and Inclusive Coordination & Development.

Objective

To design 3 visually appealing and cohesive booklets that would provide valuable guidance on inclusivity in the teaching environment.

Process

  1. Client Collaboration: Maintained continuous communication with the client throughout the 3-month project to ensure alignment with her vision.

  2. Ideation and Style Development: Together with the client, we brainstormed ideas and established a style for the Dutch booklets.

  3. Content and Illustration: The client provided all the copy text, while my colleague, a great illustrator, created engaging illustrations.

  4. Design Execution by me:

    • Edited the provided text for clarity and consistency

    • Formatted the document using Adobe InDesign

    • Developed the page layouts to ensure a professional and cohesive appearance

    • Proofread the booklets multiple times to ensure consistency

    • Deliver three 20-30 page booklets to the printer

Challenges

This project was my first foray into print design for a real client. Managing client expectations and ensuring the booklets were consistently proofread presented unique challenges. However, working with Adobe InDesign and focusing on the client’s needs allowed me to develop a strong, professional design.

Reflection

The effort and dedication paid off. The final booklets not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations. Our client was thrilled with the results and proudly presented the booklets at a teacher meeting, underscoring the project’s success.
